A brief biography of underground activist, guerilla fighter, leader of the Cuban revolution and founder of the Cuban women's movement, Vilma Espin. From the moment she joined the movement to overthrow the Batista dictatorship in the 1950s, Vilma became an irreplaceable part of the Cuban revolutionary movement. After their sucessful overthrow of Batista in 1959, Espin played a key role in advancing the position of women through the founding of the Cuban Women's Federation. Often regarded as Cuba's first lady, she was the wife of President Raul Castro.
