Una maestra en Katmandú, which inspired the movie directed by Icíar Bollaín, is a beautiful and rare love story and a fascinating travel journal. The still unfinished story of Vicki Subirana begins with the dreams of a socially-committed young teacher and culminates in the consolidation of a world-wide academic project for Nepal’s poor and marginalized population. In her quest to carry out her ideals, Vicki dealt with all kinds of obstacles: to avoid being deported, she even accepted a marriage of convenience to a Sherpa… a relationship that turned into a sweeping and passionate love story.
