Kerouac y La Generacion Beat

Sinopsis del Libro

Libro Kerouac y La Generacion Beat

This book is an exploration of Jack Kerouac, the writer that a whole generation turned into their reluctant spokesman. Duval gives a voice to key figures from that movement: the poet Allen Ginsberg; Carolyn Cassadys wife and Kerouacs lover; Joyce Johnson, who was in a relationship with the writerwhen he became famous; Timothy Leary, the psychedelic guru of the sixties; Anne Waldman, beat poet; and Ken Kesey, a central figure of American counter-culture. Through their stories, we investigate the mysterious figure of Jack Kerouac, the man who wrote the most important novel of his generation to later fall into the depths of alcoholism and despair. The result is an authentic fresco of the beat generation.

Las hijas de Juan

Libro Las hijas de Juan

Las hijas de Juan shatters the silence surrounding experiences of incest within a working-class Mexican American family. Méndez-Negrete was born in Mexico, in the state of Zacatecas. She recalls a joyous childhood growing up in the midst of Tabasco, a vibrant town filled with extended family. Her father, though, had dreams of acquiring wealth in el norte. He worked sun-up to sun-down in ...

A Woman's Place Is at the Top

Libro A Woman's Place Is at the Top

Annie Smith Peck is one of the most accomplished women of the twentieth century that you have never heard of. Peck was a scholar, educator, writer, lecturer, mountain climber, suffragist, and political activist. She was a feminist and an independent thinker who refused to let gender stereotypes stand in her way. Peck gained fame in 1895 when she first climbed the Matterhorn at the age of forty-five – not for her daring alpine feat, but because she climbed wearing pants. Fifteen years later, she was the first climber ever to conquer Mount Huascarán (21,831 feet) in Peru. In 1911, just...
